Exclamation Moderator needs a job!

as an (ex) Ansett 737 pilot, I am now looking for a new employer - along with my 850 or so colleges.

My British grandmother gives me working rights in the UK, or so I am told - so I may have to follow in my friend Redsnail's footsteps and head for the "old country". Given the size of the problem in Australia that won't be good news for UK citizens also on the job hunt, I suspect.

Please feel free to email me with encouragement and/or abuse by clicking the postcard icon above.

A flagrant misuse of the TechLog forum, so the moderator will probably shut this thread down....hey that's me!

Checkboard,

Sorry to hear about the bad news.

You sure you want to work in UK?

Well, come on then, just move this over to the Wannabees where it belongs

Unhappy

If you are going to be out of a job then I guess a 737 rating is the one to have! The low cost outfits in Europe are still looking for rated people, but its very uncertain how long that will last.

An Australian friend told me a couple of weeks ago that the 'Grandparent' visa is only applicable to a male grandparent, maybe better speak to the immigration people here in the UK to clarify that, good luck in anycase.

Scared me there Meeb! I did a bit of net research:
United Kingdom Ancestry

Commonwealth citizens who can produce the necessary documentation proving they have a grandparent born in the United Kingdom may apply for entry clearance which would enable them to seek or take employment in the UK for up to four years without the need to apply for a work permit.

See information sheet INF.UKGP

What happens after four years?

After four years, you will be eligible to apply to live here permanently as long as you continue to meet the requirements of the Immigration Rules for United Kingdom ancestry and you have worked for four years continuously in the United Kingdom.

Checkers, email sent, here to help you. So long as you don't nick my job

Passports require the father to be born in the UK, if not then it goes to the grandparent for right of abode. As Checkers posted.
Fortunately dear old dad (rip) was born in Scotland.

To keep it in line with the forum, the techs are "entertaining".

Exclamation

Must admit I thought it was either grandparent, but an aussie here in the UK told me they had been refused because she was trying to get the visa through her Grandmother.

easyJet are having a recruitment roadshow here in Scotland tomorrow and tuesday, wonder what will be said there...?

PP I have a vacancey here too but for a big strong well-built woman (pref with big bosoms) to perform domestic tasks and services of a physical nature - carrying out last nights empty beer tinnys, carrying out last nights empty beer drinkers, laundering my stickey bed-sheets, polishing of the ceiling-mirror, posing naked for my erotic art-drawing corespondance course, and frequent washing-out of the mat under my computer desk.
