Exclamation Winter Wonderland

As I type this the first serious snow of winter his the UK - ABZ runway state currently 100% contaminated with wet snow 1-2mm. So I start to wonder how many diversions I'm going to witness this year because of braking action.

Does anyone know of any working group or official body examining the ridiculous situation of braking action - specifically not being able to use it in conditions of wet snow and slush. As this is at least the third winter we have had to endure this restriction, how much longer will it be before a better solution is found?

Also, can anyone (Aberdeen operators in particular 'cos of our short runway) give me an idea how bad the contamination has to be for braking action to be critical, or is it a factor even if the contamination is as little as 10% wet snow. And what's worse for you - assuming a worst case scenario of braking action POOR or not getting any BA report at all?

This could be a long winter...
