The New-generation ATR 72

The ATR 72-500 is a derivative of the ATR 72-210 that incorporates many of the new features and upgrades applied first on the ATR 42-500. The result is greatly enhanced comfort, improved performance and the lowest seat mile costs in its market segment.

Externally, the ATR 72-500 can easily be identified by its new six-blade propeller. With a reduced diameter, slower rotational speed and advanced blade tip design, the Hamilton Standard/Ratier-Figeac 568F propellers reduce the noise and vibration transmitted to the passenger cabin.

As with the ATR 42-500, the longer-fuselage ATR 72-500 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127F engines rated at 2,750 shp.

The completely new cabin interior used on the ATR 42-500 has been applied as well to the ATR 72-500, incorporating the increased-volume overhead bins and acoustically absorbent materials. Further reductions in noise are achieved through the installation of tuned vibration dampers and the suppression of parasitic noise from outflow valves, hydraulic pumps and other sources.

Improved Productivity

Productivity of the ATR 72-500 is improved from the earlier ATR 72 versions as the result of increased engine power and higher design weights -- significantly extending the payload and range capabilities.

The higher engine power and improvements in lateral flight control also enhance takeoff and landing performance. For example, the ATR 72-500 can takeoff from a runway only 3,580 ft. in length, then carry a full load of passengers and baggage over a distance of 350 miles under ISA sea-level conditions. At the destination airport, only 3,235 feet of runway are required to land under the same conditions.

Another important feature of the ATR 72-500 is its high degree of commonality with other ATR family models, especially the ATR 42-500. The commonality results in a single type rating for all models in the ATR family.

Question

captaink,

I have seen figures for ranges in excess of 2000 nm for the -500 is this correct, what sought of payload will you get at max fuel for range, what is the range ?

Some more questions if you have time ..

What is the best height for best TAS, what are the planned fuel flows for cruise, allowances for climb, and taxi ?
What is the standard cruise heights for 300, 500, and 700 nm sectors, and time to climb ?
What is the single engine cruise height ?
What is the single engine cruise speed ?
Thanks
