Post B777 Fin position

I am aware of the various tradeoffs, but just wondering if anyone here knows the specific reason that the fin on the 777 is a bit forward of the end of the fuselage structure? Interfence issues is the only thing that makes sense to me, but moving it forward would appear to require in larger surface size (and weight) to make up for the lack of moment arm.

Think the bit behind it is the APU housing rather than aircraft hull structure. So if you fitted on there.....it would fall off.

Many aircraft put the APU there with no problems. There is plenty of room. Very unlikely that's the factor, particularly since the horizontal stab is at the most aft point. There is more structure and mechanism with that than the vertical.
