Can anyone help me, as to where I might be able to obtain study material on the 747-400 FMS
on the buses is offline

Possibly worth investing in the Aerowinx PS1.3 PC based simulator. Gives most of the functionality and some useful tutorials as well. - www.aerowinx.com -

The aforementioned flightsim's FMC was mostly based on this book.
