Fuel leak from engine : N1/N2 Indications

One question that I hope can be answered in a simple way.
According to flight crew training manuals and QRH , one of the possible indications of an engine fuel leak is decreasing N1 indications (low pressure compressor and rotor speed ) However if there a fuel leak I expected the problem to be apparent first on N2 ( high pressure compressor ) , since the result of the combustion is to first drive the HP compressor .
Am I getting something wrong here ?

What engine? FADEC or hydromechanical?
It matters...

Isn't N1 normally HP?

(I'm talking generically)

Edit again; sorry, got my turboprop head on!

No, N1 is the LP spool. N2 is HP or IP if it's a RR, N3 is HP on the RR.

Since the N1 is used to set thrust, I guess that a change in N1 indication is what you would notice first.
