haha. I meant the 777X but yeah. My understanding is the wing tips folding in flight would be catastrophic (but if anyone knows differently for certain then I’d be very happy if it’s not)! Obviously it won’t be certified for it but presume Boeing have a good idea from modelling / simulation what would happen. But assuming it will be certified with multiple redundant locking mechanisms and obviously inhibited in flight.

Naval aircraft have had folding wings for decades and I don't think there have been many issues with them failing. At the end of the day it's just like any other moving part of an aircraft, eg. Flaps/Slats, landing gear, moveable stabilizers.
