LIDO users: questions

Seeking information from (non US) users of LIDO flight charts.

If you are flying for an airline, could you share which one?
Do you have issues with LIDO as it interfaces on your I pad or similar device? What are you using?
How would you compare LIDO to Jeppesen? what's better, what is not as good?
Lastly, has the product gotten better over time (adding features, easier, more intuitive, etc) ?

If you use something other than LIDO or Jepp, what is it and how does it compare to either?

I used LIDO when flying for a low cost carrier and IMHO they are the worst charts on the market. Was extremely happy to move to a company using Jeppersen.

I use LIDO have used both extensively, much prefer LIDO, Jeps are old fashioned and clunky.

Used LIDO for six years until my employer was won over by a vastly cheaper Jeppesen subscription. Much prefer LIDO, they seem to pay much more attention to keeping charts standardized, information in the same place for every airport, and in my opinion they make more of an effort in presenting information in a readable and organized fashion. Jeppesen copies values and text directly from AIPs without any editorial (every MDA you find is an OCA, even though they nowadays happily call it a DA and throw the responsibility to the operator), including spelling mistakes in the missed approach wording for instance.
Also, they are not afraid to use more colours than black and brown on their charts, and since they are designed for a larger format than the Jeppesen charts they are also more detailed and less cluttered than the Jeppesen plates.

LIDO on paper was overly cluttered compared to Jepps. However, using the latest LIDO mPIlot on iPad is a joy and you get a much improved situational awareness with little clutter. My only gripe is that on the AGC Ground charts they don't depict the taxi centrelines (that only appears on the parking charts). Sometimes on complex taxiways it would be much better to be able to see exactly what the taxiway centreline guidance will look like at a complex junction.

mPilot has been consistently evolving (for us) and is now a half-decent product. On an iPad Pro it’s responsive and you can dig down and/or search to find lots of useful information. The annotation tools are a bit of a regression in the latest version, though. Company layers, EROPS circles, that kind of thing are done pretty well and it feels more like an actual electronic charting application than a library of paper charts copied onto a screen.

One thing that is utter garbage is the documentation section. You have to know exact details of what you want and exactly where it is before you can find it, which kind of defeats the object - it feels actively user-hostile in this respect, to the point that we publish this section as a pdf and use another app to search it.

We have the LIDO Gen Text in DocuNet. I’ve never even tried to search the utility in mPilot, as it seems just as you say.

Looks like opinion is mixed. In the USA, Jepp rules, and that's been a problem. A monopoltic provider of a service usually means lack of inovation, lack of features that the consumer requests/desires, high prices, etc, etc. Jepp was late to embrace the digital world, when it did offer a product, it was just a copy of their paper product. I experienced LIDO around 2000, transition to electronic was happening and LIDO was leading it. My employer moved back to Jeppesen (of course, after we all finally got used it) and although it was now digital, it still had some catching up to do. When Jeppesen (Boeing) bought Foreflight we saw a rapid improvement is some features Jeppesen had lagged providing. Still got the basic Jepp plate, just like in 1970, at least the ground charts are improving. I think the industry and users (pilots) would be much better off with a true competitor to Jepp, at least in the USA.

Lido sucks behind. I much prefer Jepps. Trying to look at the chartpinch, move, expand then fly off into the etherium. Non geolocated ground maps, amm, not having start boxes, change to another map, then back to amm. I would dump lido like a hot potato. Garbage!

Could not have said it better. The AMM is garbage. Give me back my Jepps.

Geolocated ground maps are available, you just have to pay for it.

Only used paper Jepp and digital mpilot LIDO and vastly prefer LIDO. But it isn't without its issues.
