737 NG vs MAX track pointer question

The track pointer on the NG PFD has a mark perpendicular to the line, whereas the MAX has only a straight line.
One pilot I was flying with mentioned that someone said that the tick mark on the NG is for aligning your seat for proper sight picture. I believe this to be bs.
The track pointer on the MAX is only a straight line.
Anyone have any ideas? What else is Boeing not telling us?……
(Yes, it gets boring on some of the longer legs and as long as we “worry” about those kind of things, we are doing pretty good)

If you look at pictures of B777 and B787 PFDs, you'll see it's the same there.

I suspect they wanted to have the same presentation in normal mode as well as when it reverts to the mini-map in case of inboard display failure.
