As sad as it is, the 787's built-in EFB is a disgrace to both Technology (poor quality touch screen, very sluggish processor) and Ergonomy (very poor placement, way out of sight and reach).

I did find a sweet spot where signal is acquired :
Bottom left of captain's side window, rearest area of the indentation, top of the climbing slope.
Luv the 'mounting'

The A-12 bubble sextant is simpler than the A-10, and they're available in restored condition on eBay for $450 instead of $800.

Search for "a-12 bubble sextant".

Be prepared to read Ha off a pretty small vernier scale though (a magnifier helps.)

Thumbs up

Dual gps, window at door 11, on/off button pointing up. Rubber covering shields the device pretty good from pax view. Cockpit doesn't want to go.

Try tucking it in by the hinges of the overhead escape hatch. It will work up there.

Forget all that modern GPS lark, this is how you navigate. If anybody is interested in taking this off my hands drop me a PM.

You will need a hole in the roof to use it.

They do look good. Would be fun to play with the ADS-B model. DualNav specs say battery life is only 10 hours though . This could be problematic if you fly long sectors in the 787. Impractical to get a charge lead up to the escape hatch which is about the only place where a GPS will consistently and reliably work in the 787. The BadElfs 2200 & 2300 have 16 & 24 hours battery (with BT in use) which would pull most of us up.
