Morning all,
Is anyone able to confirm the looped duration or length or recording of the Dreamliner CVR?
I have heard mixed reports ranging from 6 hours to 24 hour but can't find anything written down to confirm either way.

Why would there be any market for a 50 hour CVR when the latest mandate would require only 25 hours?

Just a guess. But that might be the 'sweet spot' for flash memory price/performance. Memory manufacturers have no reason to serve the relatively tiny CVR market and stick to building the maximum size devices the market and technology will support.
Some CVR manufacturers might limit the capacity to match the spec in their firmware (to match the regulatory requirements). Others might just put in the current standard sized memory and let the customer use it all.

So when the vendor finds a component that 'works', they are reluctant to use something else.

Would anyone know the general location of the forward (combined) FDR and CVR on a typical 787-8. I can see what looks like the aft (?) recorder in a photo of the aft pressure bulkhead.

Someone suggested the forward recorder was close to the aft recorder, but perhaps they are confusing the RIPS (backup power supply for the recorder). Unfortunately, I've retired, so I can't check the AMM or SSMs.
Strangely, the one in the photo looks like it's mounted upside down.

One is located in the crown of section 41, just aft of the flight deck and the other in the crown of section 47, above the aft galley.

It's so nice to be overwhelmed with information on the subject. Thanks gentlemen.
I always looked forward to crash investigation reports, as morbid as that sounds, as they often filled in the gaps in my systems knowledge. i.e. providing details not even found in Maintenance Manuals, Wiring Schematics or FCOMs .

I read somewhere that the Aft EAFR is at Station 1847. Would anyone know what the station number of the tip of the nose is? AMM Chapter 6 anyone?
