Oil smell during engine start 787
I think everybody knows the smell during push back and engine start with a 737/320 due to reingested APU or engine exhaust fumes.
You guys on the Dreamliner.. is it still noticeable during engine start? As I understand the system design of the air conditioning system it shouldn't be.

Why would the 787 air packs be immune from re-ingesting APU or engine exhaust? They have to draw in the air from around the airplane, if there is exhaust around the airplane it can be ingested into the packs.

787 CAC's and Packs shut down for 2 minutes during eng start so any fumes generated don't get sucked in as the compressors aren't operational (needed to provide more electrical power for engine start of both engines at the same time).
I've never experienced any smells at all from the 787 A/C system...

The 787 AC/Pressurization system eliminates engine/APU bleed paths and their lubricating oils. Jet fume ingress is naturally still possible across the ramp, but not burned oil or other toxic substances directly from the engines or APU.
