Hello,
Anyone who knows, or can find it in the FCOM, how long the magenta line is when on a missed approach and it says (VECTOR)? I have heard something around 700, but wondered as a fun fact ;-)

This is for an NG.
• When (VECTOR) is the ACTive LEG, the
FMC does not automatically sequence to
the next wpt. It maintains heading
indefinitely. The next wpt becomes ACTive
only upon EXECution of the procedure for
proceeding direct to a wpt or intercepti ng a
leg to a wpt.

The vector from missed approach in Brimingham (EGBB runway 15) ends up near Barcelona (LEBL), which is a great circle distance of ~688nm...
Thus actual distance exceeds 400nm by quite a lot, however the actual maximum vector distance, I'd have to look into that...

And while we're at it. When such a vector line is part of the flight plan, where does Fuel on board get its numbers from. Does it assume a certain distance flown on that vector or does it go from start of the vector line to the first following fix on the approach?

When using the Alternates FMC function, you can control what fuel prediction method will be (e.g. DIRECT or after MISSED APPROACH) for calculation of Alternate Fuel on arrival. If Missed Approach is selected but the missed approach ends in a Vector, the fuel calculation assumes last coded point prior to Vector for calculation.

Which is different to what OP is asking: how long the is the magenta line?

Distance is 700 nm. Can be checked by using a point on the approach and generating a way point relative to that. So, it FAT is 270 and there is a FF27 at 8nm, put FF27270/708 on an empty line in the legs pages of the FMC. Go to plan mode and step to centre the display on this point. Should be right at the end of your 700nm go around. Would be easier to do if you could put RWY27270/700 in, but the FMC does not allow way points relative to a RWYXX point.
