737 trim wheels

Does anyone know the reason why the 737 trim wheels are manufactured by different manufacturers?

I just watched the ITVV 737-300 go airlines dvd....

Why is it that the right is made by one company and the left is made by another? Is this a wind up?

Redundancy. If one company goes Tango Uniform, at least you won't lose all your trimwheels.

It's the same reason they have a CFM on one wing and a Roller on the other.

the real reason as I discovered direct from the horses mouth (Boeing) was that during the 1990's the production could not keep up with demand hence a new company was hired to produce several items on the 737 including the Left trim wheels.....
