Heh - not by lawyers. The infamous FCOM language is a result of a policy that has all documentation written in French by technical writers, then translated almost word-for-word into other languages. This makes some sense in that the method reduces the likelihood of translation errors through phrasing differences, but it makes the language (particularly for native English speakers) rather idiosyncratic.
I wonder if the opposite is the case for French readers of Boeing's manuals?
