Q400 / ATR72-500 Fuel Burn
Trying to run informal comparison between these two and having trouble locating even ROM fuel burns. Can anyone let me have typical block hour fuel burns for both types? More specifically, fuel burn and block times for both on 250 nm and 500 nm sectors assuming full pax load and standard reserves, SL take off, ISA.
Also, any comparative DOC information would be very welcome too.

For the DH8-400:
On a 500NM sector planned with maximum cruise power, expect approx. 1:35 block time and 1750kg fuel burnt. Reducing power to an intermediate setting will save around 200kg but take 5 minutes more. It is up to scheduling, present and anticipated delays etc. which power setting is used.
For 250NM, fuel burn is at approx. 1150kg and flight time about 1:00. The effect of a power reduction in cruise is lower here; it will save only about 50kg in exchange for about 2 minutes longer flight time.
With regards to DOC, You will need to mind the overhead costs, maintenance, fuel contracts etc. of the individual company. The only company I know that uses or has used both aircraft simultaneously is LOT - maybe You will find answers if You write directly to their head office.

I thought ATR72 closer to 750kg per hour making a 250nm trip around 750-800kg and 500nm around 1500kg. This would be closer to 12kg per minute, 10kg per minute would be closer to ATR42.

Anyway, we have bear in mind that during the first hour we are burning more fuel due to taking off and climbing. Then, the following hours are more economical which means that 500 nautical miles are better than 250 nm.
So, might be considered 10 kg after de first hour in ATR 72 depending on weight, flight level and your profile for your descending.
