flight control check 737NG

Who pushes the MFD systems button (to display the page on the lower DU) before taxi ? In the FCOM it seems to be the Captain who turns it on. But according the area of responsibility the button is on the FO's area when the captains is taxiing or PF. It is clear that the FO blanks it again. Am I correct to assume that it is not necessary to display it at all for the flight control check? The FCOM tells you only to push it "if desired".

Well, my airline doesn't even have the page available on the lower DU, so it's not necessary for the control check.
