In Ear Aviation Headset!

I am using Freecom 7000 on the 777, agree with Christophglex it is a good headset.
However I find it is a bit money waste for me as we do not use intercom at all and most guys only use one side of the headset and the other ear uncovered to hear each other, plus speakers from TOC to TOD so it is really abit too expensive just for that, If i get to choose again I think 3000 would be enough.
but on the other hand i also use it to fly piston planes and it works very well.
I also had Mach 1 before but I would say it is not worth buying, send back for broken wire 2 times in 3 yrs.

I'm using the 7000 on the A320 and it works a treat. We do use intercom a lot and even without it or the other guy on speaker and handheld mike it works nicely. Just turn up the volume of the "external world". On the rare occasion of two pilots using Phonak I experienced the most silent flight ever. Lowest intercom setting so far and not a single "you what?!" during the whole day.

In the Ear Headsets
Currently there are five choices that I have seen.
In ascending order of price, there is the Plantronics MS200 at about $130, which replaced their MS30-2 that did fit tightly in the ear canal. Each purchased headset came with 6 earpieces so that you could pick the best fit. They also make the MS20-2 that fits in the ear and is held by a clip that goes over your head. Pilots take the headclamp off and clip the headset onto the arm of their eyeglasses.
Next is the Quiet Technology Halo priced at $359. Like the older Plantronics MS30, it has an earpiece that fits in your ear tightly.
Clarity Aloft and Lightspeed Mach 1 both retail for $525 and are similar with the exception that Clarity Aloft has two earpieces which engage both ears.
The last choice is from Phonak in Switzerland. These folks make many many hearing aids and have just entered the aviation headset market with their FreeCom 7000 priced at $1357. I believe that it features Active Noise Reduction rather than Passive as is the case with the first four devices.

I tried the Phonak 7000 during 2 weeks but it didn't fit my needs. I'm flying on a light jet which is a bit noisy. The Phonak is not really an ANR. It didn't cancel the noise but kind of "restitute it". So if there is a lot of aerodynamic noise in your cockpit, you can be sure that you will continue to hear it but crystal clear then. Not what i'm expecting.

I'm on the A330 and we use Sennheiser headsets. Airbus have a different plug to standard headsets. Looks like an XLR jack(for the musicians).
I use these headsets for the departure and arrival phases but after headsets off in the cruise, i have a set of custom earplugs with a 25db(I think) filter. Keeps the high pitch wind noise out but allows voices to be heard clearly through the speaker and I use the hand mic.
Seems to be the best of both worlds for me.

Anyone have any experience of this? Dare I say, on an A320?
I find most headsets uncomfortable due to head clamping effect so am about to try this which is about 1/3 of the cost of the Freecom equivalent. I sleep with ear plugs when in noisy hotels so am used to the feeling!
