ACARS Initialize and Request
Just wanted to confirm what the purpose of the Initialize and Request(on the initialize page) is. Doesn't seem to be well explained in my manuals.
Does all sorts of things. Sets up the Flt Log page. Tells the TODC system where you are. Clears any previous msgs eg Depart Dly. Preloads ATIS arrive/depart airfields. In US generates auto ATC clearance. Makes sure the auto route uplink is for the right route.
Probably others, but can't think of them right now!

ACARS are user software and can be different from aircraft to aircraft or usually from operator to operator. Therefore you have to ask your company for a valid manual.

T/O performance - done by a very clever computer somewhere in Scandinavia in response to data entered in ACARS. Waste of time in 757 with one t/o flap setting used and ASTM only. In the 767 with 3 fixed derates and ASTM available as well as a variety of flap settings and improved climb if req, it's invaluable.
It's another of those many functions which needs to know where you are - all part of the INIT function.
Hope this helps
