Question Trent 1000

Anyone know what % of the thrust is developed by the bypass air vs. combustion gas for a trent 1000?

The answer is "most". It's basically a turboprop.

Bypass ratio is about 11:1 if that helps...although the velocity of the two airflows would have to come into it also...

Hello Toddevans1,

The Trent 1000 is a high-bypass turbofan 3 spool engine. Although I don't know the exact figures for this engine, typically 80% of the engine thrust is generated by the fan and bypass features with only 20% generated by the core engine itself. By core, I mean the compressors and turbines. The core only needs to be sized to generate enough power to drive the compressors and the fan plus energy required for other functions such as electrical power generation.

Fuel burn efficiency is determined by the overall efficiency of the core engine. Core engine efficiency can be improved mainly by several things, aerodynamic improvements of compressor airfoils to develop high compression ratios, a higher combustion temperature generated by the ignition of the air/fuel mixture in the combustor and aerodynamic improvements and temperature capability of turbine airfoils which drive the compressors and fan.
