SATCOM operation on 737NG

Hi there
I'd like to know if anybody can tell me how the SATCOM calls works in terms of costs,how is it bille?what's the medium of transmission?let's say u're over kenya for instance and u wanna make a local call do u have to dial the country code or just the number direct?Thanks in advance

Can't tell you about the 737, but we have an Iridium on our aircraft that works beautifully anywhere in the world. You dial 00 [country code] [phone number minus the areacode zero].

All plumbed into the cockpit and fed through VHF 3.

we have sacom on our etops 737 machines, wired through no 1 hf. we can select hf or satcom. works great.cost not sure, but a lot cheaper than an hf phone patch
