Coronal Mass Ejection - implications for Modern Airliners?
Given the level of computerised technology on modern airliners, and the damage that a CME can do - is it possible that a major event could bring down an airliner?
This may be a really easy one to answer - if the aircraft is shielded from such phenomenon, but if not... what are the options? I would imagine that deploying the RAT would not help - as the electrics would be fried...?
Anybody out there know if CME's are taken into account during the design and operation of airliners (or, in fact, military aircraft!)
Thanks!!
