rj series/bae 146 upgrades

Just took my first rj100 flight, nice plane! Just wondered despite the rjx project has BAE ever though of re engining the aircraft (a good number of airlines still operate older 146's and newer rj's) sure there are more economic engines out there which would increase the life span of the A/C, and improve distance and economics. Read some where that swiss airlines upgraded the cabin with ricaro seating and saved about 500kg in weight??Or is it just not viable in todays market. And is aircraft production dead in the UK??

It would take more than re-engining to make it work. Some of the avio gear in those things is stone age or just awful to maintain.
Having said that they are sweet thing to get around in and can really grease the runway.Proviso ,as long as they are not a heavy -300 that climbs like a geriatric with lung disease.
There is a member here with the name "146's make me cry".
One could assume it is not crying for joy.
Love the nick though.
