RVSM / MNPS (recurrent) training requirements

Hi all, many operators have in their manuals (OM-D) the requirement for crews to undergo an RVSM MNPS recurrent training every 36 months. Sometimes the list is extended to subjects such as ETOPS and PRNAV.

Where does this 36-months requirement come from? Anyone knows?
Thanks for the pointers.

I could certainly do with a refresher myself - I've even forgotten what MNPS stands for!

Does the FAA require recurrent RVSM training?
