weather closes gold coast (coolangatta) airport

this normally busy airport was closed for 3 hours on 27 dec due to rain and poor visibility, delaying many.

the explanation given was "this is not a radar airport" can anyone please explain?

Dunno' about radar but there is no ILS there which tends to raise the cloud base and viz requirements. Haven't got my Jepps at hand so dunno' about GNAV - APP limits or if the airport now has RNP procedures published.
