MD-11 Reversers

Hello, all you MD-Drivers out there!

Can someone please tell me whether the MD-11s reversers are inhibited until the NOSE WHEEL touches down or not? And if its really so, all of them? Just no2?

Thanks in advance!

#2 engine reverse is limited to idle reverse until nosewheel strut compression, at that time full reverse is available. Eng 1&3 have no restriction.

To add #2 reverser on an MD-11 causes the aircraft to pitch up.

There was a software fix for the pitchup which added nose lowering force to LSAS so the pitchup is nowhere near as pronounced as it was previously.

There was a software fix for the pitchup which added nose lowering force to LSAS so the pitchup is nowhere near as pronounced as it was previously.
That was to fix the aircraft pitching up as a result of spoiler deployment and the effect it had on the horizontal stab. The fix delays full deployment of spoilers and may run the stab A.N.D. It is a software function of the FCC and has little to do with LSAS (a function of the FCC), LSAS really goes to work at higher speeds much like the yaw dampening effect on the rudder.

The #2 engine causing the nose to pitch up was not a surprise and has the exact same effect on DC-10's, the engine points it's exaust a few degrees towards the ground. The opposite effect can be experienced with fwd thrust of #2 engine pushing the nose down on the ground.

DC-10's did also pitch up on spoiler deployment but the effect was not as drastic and did not contribute to hull losses as in the MD-11.
