Airbus: Digits in the FCU

Hi at all!

I have a question concering the digits in the FCU. Sometimes you can see that for example in the Vertical Speed Selector you have two small digits like -09oo fpm and sometimes it is normal like -0900 fpm. Why is this sometimes so and sometimes not? Has this something to do with flying Raw Data e.g. flying without the FD or so? I have attached you an image:

Thanks in advance!
