No red anit coll underneath a Dash 8

Can anyone give an offical/technical reason as to why there is no red anti coll beacon on the underside of a dash 8 (the answer of "thats hows its built is not appreciated!!").
As a passenger transport a/c i would have thought it the same as all others.
Maybe something to do with the overall weight/size? but it does fall into the medium catagory!
Ta!

The requirement relates to field of view as, for instance, in FAR 25.1401.

In the absence of contrary information, it is reasonable to presume that the aircraft cited meets the relevant design standard with only the one light.

As a Line Engineer, I do a lot of driving around the ramp.

Without the lower anti-col beacon, it is extremely difficult to see that the Dash 8 is about to commence its push off stand.

It has caught me out on more than one occasion.

Lots of people have been caught out as you say. As dispatchers, the only way you can see if it's ready to start or push back is to be forward of the wingtips as it's the only place you can see the anti collision beacon on the top of the fuselage. Otherwise keep your eyes on the start crew for signals.

Be careful.
