multiple failure modes - document reference needed
According to best industry practice one need not assume multiple failure modes or contingencies for flight planning. Example: A diversion to the alternate already constitutes a failure mode and a possible failure to raise gear and/or flaps (additional failure mode) need not be considered for alternate fuel calculation.
