B767 Fuel Leak

Any fuel leak on the B767 will always lead you to the "ENGINE FUEL LEAK" section of the QRH - regardless of where it is coming from - and a subsequent shutdown.

What though if the leak is coming from some part remote to the engine - eg a wing tank? EICAS / FMC messages, visual obsevations & so on you will always 'force' you to the ENGINE FUEL LEAK checklist; rather useless & unsatisfactory if you wish to keep both engines running.

Currently our airline policy is to indeed keep burning the fuel from the leaking tank (ie keep that engine running) & shut it down at a later time according to other considerations. QRH application in this case can be messy bearing in mind there is only the one Fuel leak checklist, but not beyond any competent crew.

INFORMED comments please - I think Airbus allows a restart if any leak confirmed well away from the 'hot bits', and left wondering why Boeing have seemingly not addressed the issue. Are we missing anything?

Cheers.
