787 vs 777

Just a curious question.

Is 787 smaller than 777 in terms of barrel size?

Barrel? Is this a new aviation term I wonder? Since Pontious was a pilot I think it has been a fuselage, as so described by the previous poster.

"Fuselage barrel" is not an uncommon term... I have seen it used numerous times.

The manufacturers refer to them as barrels. Thats the open ended cylindrical bits that when joined together, and with a nose and tail added form a fuselage.

Brian is correct. In production, prior to assembly they are identified as barrel sections and assigned a character or letter number. The act of assembly is called a barrel join.

lynksys,

The 787 could be considered a 767 replacement as far a size goes.

And I keep meaning to ask how you manage that - doesn't feel much less spacious than the 9-abreast versions!
