Airbus OP DES/OP CLB/ etc

Could someone remind me what controls the speed in OP CLB/DES mode and how does this differ from V/S?

Cheers

OP DES is a thrust idle decent. Speed controled by the elevator and a/c will not respect any constraints.

OP CLB has CLB THR as per normal. Elevator controls speed and once again no constraits will be respected.

V/S will fly whatever the selected or managed speed is and use THR to control the rate of climb or decent.

Open Climb and Open Descent uses pitch to control speed with a fixed thrust setting.

With the autothrust engaged the fixed thrust settings are generally climb thrust and idle respectively.

With Vertical Speed mode the autopilot pitches to achieve the vertical speed, whilst the autothrust does its best to maintain the selected speed. The vertical speed target has preference over the speed target.

Hope that helps.
