winds aloft

Hi there.
Could smb tell me please, how to access winds aloft data (flight level - wind dir/spd and temp) - NOT charts/images, only raw data (ascii). I know about GRIB files and the model i apparently need - "GFS", however as i have never dealt with them it's confusing how to extract data and actually which files i need (talking about noaa's ftp)...

PS World coverage, up to fl390
