The REV flag appears on the engine main parameter -- EPR for IAE engines or the N1 scale for CFM engines.
Appears in amber when a reverser door is unstowed or unlocked. It changes to green when the doors are fully deployed.(If a door unlocks in flight the indication first flashes for 9 seconds, then remains steady).

The most obvious way is to look at what the N1 indications show after selection of reverse. If reverse idle is selected, the N1s will not change from their forward idle positions much, but you will see a marked increase with selection of full reverse.
Of course, its probably easier to look at the position of the thrust levers.
