FAA Directive - Landing Gear - AAR

Apparently AAR Landing Gear overhauls were using enamel paint!

From CNBC

AAR Corp. slides; FAA says landing gear improperly maintained| 01 Apr 2008 | 11:06 AM ET Font size: NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Shares of AAR Corp. sank Tuesday following a Federal Aviation Administration notification issued last week that said landing gear the company services for Boeing 707, 747, 757 and 767 aircraft was improperly maintained.

The stock fell 8% to $25.08 in morning trading.

The notification, which was sent March 25 to aircraft owners, operators, manufacturers, maintenance organizations, parts suppliers, and parts distributors, said evidence indicates that AAR approved main landing gear truck beams for return to service that weren't maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's maintenance manuals.

The FAA is encouraging aircraft owners and operators to inspect their planes for any of these truck beams approved for return to service by AAR between Jan.

1, 2001, and Nov. 26, 2007.

"If you find any truck beams installed on any Boeing 707, 747, 757 and 767 aircraft, you should take appropriate action," the FAA said. "If you find any truck beams in existing inventory, we recommend quarantine to prevent installation until each truck beams' eligibility for installation is determined." A representative from AAR wasn't immediately available for comment.
