Time to anti ice
Been a while ....
How long does it roughly take to anti ice (2 step procedure) a 767 size aircraft at the gate?
Does the amount of snow or ice on the aircraft have any effect on this time?

the 1st step will depend on how much accumulation there has been upon the airframe. All must be cleared off and could range from 5 to 30 mins or more.
The 2nd step is more predictable. 10 mins a ball park figure for 767.
The hold over time kicks in from beginning of 2nd stage and that can be as low as a few minutes depending upon temperature and precipitation rate.

first the correct wording should be "de-icing" at that stage...
And for your question, you have to thrust de deicing staff...
the guy in the nacell of the deicing truck has a accurate sight ot the situation..or sometime..when no guy 's up, a camera send pictures to the operator in the truck..
option: If you don't thrust them..have a ladder and check yourself...
specially at the holding point, almost ready to go...

Cop a feel is the one and only way you can be sure.
I and I am sure a lot of you de-icers reading this have gone up in the basket/ladder and had a shock when you touched the water droplets and found it solid!
If in doubt spray it out

Ignorant pilot: "No, it's fine... It's just water..."
I learned about the effects of mixing sub-zero temperatures with water before they let me de-ice aircrafts, so the first time i found ice on a wing, i was NOT surprised...
One would think somebody thought of telling the pilots too, before they let them fly the aircrafts...

Bartender see your point. My point was you can't tell by just looking, and your eyes are saying that's just water and it ain't.
Have you had from the Pilots (all true)...
"Just do the one wing"
"My car was not frosty at home"
"How much is it per ltr? Just put a bit on"
"Ok it is covered (White with frost) but I am light on take off it will be ok"
"You are just after getting your bonus and making money for your company" Me " My house is under the flight path for one, and I would rather be at home now in my bed after staying on all night than fannying around in the basket freezing my nuts off"
We did de-ice all of the above.
Most Pilots are great about it. But some are !!
