A320 flaps?

Hi there,

I am currently doing an A level project on the technical features of an A320. I am aware that to the pilot the flap settings are flaps 1, 2, 3 and 4, however does anyone know the actual angle of each flap extention? I know boeing use 5, 10, 15, 30 etc... whether that is the actual flap angle I am not sure.

Also, does anyone know where I can find a diagram of how the flaps work regarding the physics, (i.e. lift etc...) for an airbus design wing?

Thanks, any help is much appreciated,

Sam

Sorry, too lazy to look it up for you, actual flap extension will vary with the type of engine installed.

Hi Sam,
Hope this helps.

Position Slats Flaps Indication
0 0 0
1 18 0 1 (Approach)
1 18 10 1+F (Takeoff)
2 22 15 2
3 22 20 3
FULL 27 35 FULL

This is for the A320 CFM-engined.

Hi Sam
A320 Flap angles in degrees ... CONF is Airbus speak for configuration...

CONF.....SLAT.....FLAP
0 ......not surprisingly, zero.
1 ..........18.........0 when selected above 100kts.
1 ..........18........10 when selected below 100 kts (i.e. on the ground)
2 ..........22........15
3 ..........22........20
FULL .....27........35

You may also like to know that when flaps are extended (any position) the ailerons droop by 5 degrees.

For aerodynamic gen try googling aerofoils which should lead you to any number of "ground school" sites.
Good luck
TP

Wow,

Are you sure?

I have only flown the IAE powered 319/320 and our CONF Full is 27/40.

for the A320out of the Airbus Flight Manual)

slats flaps
stage 1 18 0 intermediate approach
stage 1 18 10 take off 1 + F
stage 2 22 15 approach, take off
stage 3 22 20 approach, take off, landing
stage FULL 27 35 landing

Sam, as per the above posts except flaps 4 position; 27 slats 40 flaps degrees. IAE engines fitted on A320/A321.

Interesting that flap 4 position varies in other figures posted as seventhree mentioned. Maybe the CFM engines are limited to flap 35 due to a slightly larger engine diameter......

Had a feeling that FULL = FLAP 40 was an A319 thing, not an IAE thing. Think the IAE maximum nacelle-diameter may be smaller than CFM, aulglarse, but bigger at the aft end 'cos of the full-length fan-duct.

Interesting that FULL gives so much less FLAP on the A321 than on the A320, apparently. Guess it might be the higher wing-loading? [A321 wing is same area as the others, I believe.]

Good question, Sam...

I think that's because the A321 has tripple slotted Flaps whereas the A319/A320 only have double slotted flaps.
