Mach Crit B747

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know where a shock wave first appears on the 747?

It may well be on the fuselage as shimmy states, but if your asking about the wing, normally appears first at the thickest point of the wing.

The first place the shock wave appears on the entire a/c. Doesn't necessarly have to be on the wing.

As any 744 pilot knows, M crit is achieved, at normal cruise speed, at a point on the upper fuselage approx 2 metres aft of the Captain's seat. This is exactly above the flight crew rest area and is recognised as a constant tearing noise. Only the truely jet-lagged can sleep soundly at this position.
