Hot GPS

Have started using a handheld GPS in flight, a Garmin GPS Pilot 3 model, sitting on the dash just under the windscreen. Problem is that the unit gets very hot fom the sun.

Is this damaging, or should i ge some sort of cover for it to stop the sunlight heating up the body of the unit?

Most electronic items will say to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight somewhere at the back of the manual. If the unit's unaffected, it shouldn't be a problem, but since you can actually feel the temperature increase, I'd say you need to do something about it.

Yeah, stick some foil over it to reflect the sun rays...
