Kingston TAF and METAR

Whilst a bit bored on a flight from Sao Paulo to Johannesburg on the night of the 19th/20th Aug I decided to pull a TAF and METAR on the ACARS for Kingston, Jamaica. This was over the perod of Hurricane Dean.

METAR: MKJP 200100 110P99KT (must be excess of 99kts) 0000 +SHRASQ BKN008 SC10CB OVC080 24/24 Q997

TAF: 191500Z 191818 11070G100 5000 TSRA BKN012 BKN016CB OVC080 TEMPO 1809 2000 +TSRA BECMG 0608 13025G40

I reckon a monitored approach is required for this one.

Was due to fly in there today! The crew that are there are hold up in the ball room of the hotel.

Hey ho, hopefully it will all be gone by tomorrow.

What about this?

MKJP 192100Z 14070KT 1000 BKN010 SCT016 OVC080 XX/XX Q0992

MKJP 192300Z E11099OO180KT 0KM BKN008 BKN010CB OVC080 24/24 Q0998

"E" seems to be "estimated", the characters "OO" I have never seen before, do you have any clue?

Do you know this website? http://www.stormpulse.com/
Quite cool!

I'm surprised the QNH is so high (997mb) I though it would be a lot lower.

The Eye passed Jamaica's southern coast, but it did not reach it. And to have such strong winds you need to have a high difference in pressure over a short distance. It is logical, isn't it? If you have a look at the link that I have posted before, you can have a look at the eye's position.

In any case huge winds.

Hi,

I do not think so, because these are two o's, not zeroes. It might be some kind of "gust".

At least it's right down the runway. ;-)
Looks like Palisadoes Rd will be closed again like after Ivan.

OO is the symbol for infinity. 99 infinitely variable to 180 observed knots. Or maybe- Over & Out as he runs for his life.
