Selecting REVERSE:Airbus
Does anyone know why we wait for the 'REV GREEN' to come on before REVERSE is selected please? Can't we just apply reverse and the FADEC govern when it can supply power? I asked an Instructor and all he said was 'it's SOP'.

Its not SOP in my company. However I would guess that your company wants to ensure all reversers unstowed before applying Max reverse. If one does not unstow and you apply max reverse you could get quite a large swing.

According to Airbus standard SOP 3.03.22 P5 REV33
you are supposed to select max reverse immediately after the main landing gear touches down.
Any other restrictions might be due to company policy or airport regulations...

Thanks for the replies Gents.
FYI, I'm on the A330 but soon to go onto the A340. The same applies there apparently too.
So would it be a fair assumption that this might be an Engine manufacturer related specification or purely performance related, as RWU suggests? As the A320 doesn't specify this, wouldn't you get a large swing too if it didn't deploy?

It depends on which engine you have. CFM is ok, but the V25 has a cascade reverser which can blow out the refueling panel door below 60 kts. Airbus have now modified newer aircraft refueling panel doors and they can be identified by the hinges being on the forward edge.
