Number of type ratings
Just wondering if there is a maximum number of type ratings you can keep current, and thus types you can fly? Do the CAA put an upper limit on it, or is it simply down to the size of your grey matter and how many you can remember?

According to JAR-FCL and Jarops 1 ,you may have a maximum of 2 active type ratings with separate license endorsement ,and there are some restrictions and conditions to be met by te operator to justify operation on both types (see Appendix 1 to Jarops 1.980 )
For piston engine or tp types you may have 3 type ratings.

JAR-FCL specifically says there is no limit to the number of ratings you can hold, however as Alexban says JAR-OPS restricts you to two. So if you're flying for an airline two is effectively the limit, but you can have more in private ops. At one stage I was current on five different types. Interestingly I used to find more problems moving between aircraft which were the same type rating but different variants (switches in different places etc) than between machines that were completely different.
