Autothrust sys in Airbus ...Too complicated....

(after reading this in FCOM)

With the thrust lever above the CL detent, autothrust reverts to arm (A/THR blue on FMA) except if alpha-floor is active. CLB (or LVR CLB) flashes on the FMA.

If the thrust levers are not aligned, an asymmetric message (ASYM or LVR ASYM) appears on the FMA. If so, each engine is limited to its appropriate TLA.

This allows the use of autothrust to continue if one engine has to have its maximum RPM limited for some operational reasons such as excessive vibration.

===================>
Here's my question....

1>In Cruise, with A/THR engaged, I move No.2 Thrust lever to MCT.
What happens to the A/THR , and in FMA???

I reckon you'd get LVR CLB on the FMA and MCT on one engine, A/THR commanded power on the other.

FMA as said would show :
MAN MCT(armed)

LVL CLB

If both were above CL detend, and not in MCT detend, it would show
MAN THR(armed)

LVL CLB

If both were below it would show
THR LVL(active)

LVL CLB

If one was below it would show
THR LVL(active)

LVL ASYM

I think... =)

the airbus Auto thrust is not that complicated if you think of it as a thrust rating panel, rather than a conventional set of throttles.

If you set 1 thrust lever out of CL detent youŽll get an ECAM message LVR ASSYM (lever assymetry) and a master caution announcement once every 5 seconds.

I suppose that particular engine either is limited by the thrust lever angle you put it at or goes to MCT or TOGA, depending on where you set it.
