FAA A nd P licence

FAA A nd P licence

I am looking at taking my A and P license at a college in the US, but I am having a small problem. The FAA want a specific form signed to say that I either work on N reg aircraft or I have an intention to work on N reg aircraft (apparently this means a job offer).

Does anyone have any ideas if there are ways round this?

I am currently a Ground Engineer/ Crew Chief in the RAF and I am looking at working in the UAE, and the FAA scheme seems the most simple straight foward
way to get a maintenance license.

I have no intention of working in the UK or Europe so I am not interested in CAA. JAR.

Also if anyone has any college recommendations in the States for residential courses?

Um, well, naturally, you have intentions of working on N registered aircraft.
You say you are in the RAF working airplanes, so you have a training record, so challenge the test, just take the dang thing.
The air ledge will kill you, so a course there would probably help, no, wait, it will help, but the basic stuff you should already know. I don't believe you really want to take a course on how to safety wire or dope a wing or balance a wood prop or any other number of mundane things that you probably know, so why don't you take a peek at the test/qualification requirements and go from there?
You may be surprised and save yourself boo koo bucks.

The Problem is you cannot take the test until the form (8190 I think) is signed by an FAA inspector.
The London office have said the will not sign the said form Until I am employed on N reg or have a Job offer.... its a catch 22 never ending circle.

Its not as simple as just "taking the test"

Did mine 10 years ago and not being a US citizen had to have a letter from US airline that we had maint contract with to confirm that we needed the licence, the days of going and sitting one off your own bat are long gone i believe, guess you'll have to do some work and get a REAL licence !!!
