Aircraft Maximum weight

Yesterday on Passengers and SLF I posted a lighthearted (or light headed) message entitled "Everyone needs a Laff -try this " about the tow bar that got stuck to the front of a BEa 146.

But I've been thinking . If the aircraft was so heavy that the tow bar got stuck and could only be released by 20 passengers tilting the nose of the aircraft up into the air then I reckon it was pretty damn heavy.

On Flybe allSLF can have 25 Kgs in the hold and 10 Kgs in the cabin. And I've never seen so many "Heavy" stickers on a baggage carousel before.

I'm quite sure they would not have done anything unsafe or illegal but for the tow bar to get stuck until the aircraft was tilted seems a bit Heath Robinson to me. Or was it just nose heavy because Gordon was sending a few tons of Gold to Spain as part of our EU contribution, or something.
