Question IRS Fault 737-300/400/500

Can anyone explain why the Boeing QRH advises "not to engage the autopilot" after an IRS fault and successfully transferring both IRS's to the left or right.
Tried it on the ground and the autopilots will engage after transferring both onto the good IRS?
