IRS Fault 737-300/400/500
Can anyone explain why the Boeing QRH advises "not to engage the autopilot" after an IRS fault and successfully transferring both IRS's to the left or right.
Tried it on the ground and the autopilots will engage after transferring both onto the good IRS?
Thanks Mangatete

As I understand it, it is because you loose any form of cross checking - You are reliant upon the remaining IRS to behave. Now if you are flying the aircraft and the IRS shows you suddenly in a sprial dive when you know you aren't you will probably do the right thing. The autopilot won't...
