Its hot in here!!

Interesting discussion came up the other day....Keep in mind Dash-8 and ATR 42/72 turboprop types. The question is:
Can you assist rate of cabin cooling by selecting high elevation figure on digital pressurization controller?.
Scenario: Takeoff Elev=SL
OAT +32 deg celsius
Landing Elev=2800 but you input 4800 or higher on Digital Pressurization Controller because this will assist rate of cabin cooling after takeoff.

Perhaps I'm missing the big picture here but I don't see the way this can help with cooling of the cabin because selected alt on pressure controller (on ATR, at least) becomes relevant only when you start your descent. And I guess you don't want to wait till TOD to coll things down. AFAIK only way to cool down the cabin faster is to increase airflow or reduce temperature of inflow. So if you fly ATR, temp controllers go to full cold and FLOW pb goes to HIGH. And be prepared for decreased performance. If you have problems with cooling of the cabin, check with maintenance if your packs haven't passed use-by date. Replacing the pack (or sometimes just cleansing the heat exchanger grille) can do wonders for air conditioning of the plane.

And just a little warning: If normal procedure can't be found anywhere in SOP, AFM or FCOM - don't do it, no matter how beneficial it might seem. You can always count on being surprised by the unforeseen consequences of improvisation.

Thanks

Thanks for your input Clandestino. I'm on the same page as you. By the way can you tell me if the use of "reduced torque for takeoff" is something very common/approved for ATR42/72 aircraft?

I fly only 42-300 with PW120 engines and we don't have a single HP to spare so we always use max T/O TQ, for given conditions. There's slim chance that -500 srs drivers may use reduced TQ but I can't confirm that. Anyone current on -500 caring to comment?
