KLM 747-400 Gear handle
Been meaning to ask this question for ages - done a search & can find no reference. Here goes:
I've seen a number of cockpit photographs of KLM 747-400's in flight and in all of them the gear handle is left in the "Up" position rather than moved to the "Off" position during flight. What logic do they have for this procedure? Is it a KLM fleet-wise Boeing procedure?
Every other operator (to my knowledge) moves the lever to "Off" - seems strange & I'm hoping to learn something.

Maybe KLM has got some strange sop...
I recall a visit to a 767 flight deck, about 8 years ago, the FO explained to me that in KLM the use of autobrake is forbidden, just because once somebody forgot to brake after having forgotten to set autobrakes.
That was the incident that triggered this sop!

If the landing gear handle is left in the UP position, 3000 psi hydraulic pressure continues to be applied to the retract actuator. This is not good, as it can lead to all kinds of problems. It leads to premature wear of the retract actuators and its seals, tends to overheat the hydraulic fluid, and puts un-necessary stresses on the landing gear and surrounding structure.

4HolerPoler I have been thinking of this question for some time as well. From what I can see, they have been using this procedure since at least 1993 so thats 13 years!! It appears to be only on the 400 series 747.
I wonder if they have an auto off function just on the KLM 744's?
