In fact. at the MAP, with runway 13L 90 degrees to the CRO 041R, and the very directional nature of the 13L runway lights, is it even possible to see the runway ? In other words, at the MAP, can you proceed visually if only the
first or second LDINs are in view ?
That's why it's important to get down to 800' when it's actually IFR. Gives you a chance to pick up the airport. There is a VASI on the right side of 13L that is designed to be used while on the arc(over the leadin lights). Left side VASI is used after intercepting final.

VASI is part of the visual references to continue the approach. Pick it up and you can continue while using the leadin lights as a ground track reference.

It's sporty when it's actually IFR...

Can be very sporty with a strongish southerly wind! But, still a great approach to fly - makes full use of the pilot's skills.

The approach should be reconsidered

Every time pilots discuss canarsie approach , I have the feeling that so many pilots do not find it the most appropriate thing to do at the circumstances then, if many pilots are not comfortable , we will be asking for troubles or unnecessary mishaps.

Here's a few more procedures that look like they'll put some hair on any jet pilot's chest icluding females ....notice in the minimums section it says circling

I love LGA, quaint: US NAVAIDS, quaint
