I think that you are talking the noise signature on the ground after the aircraft has passed.

I believe that this thread was about the noise signature in the air heard by the passengers or those on the ground in front of the engine.

I witnessed a C-5B (aka BED) take off today. It was surprisingly quiet, made a vacuum cleaner-like whine. Then I noticed taxpayers' money coming out the exhaust. Must have a silencing effect, methinks.
